I've got an interesting booklet about how to do an online business. It has its interesting points, not everything applies to every online business model, but it is a good point to start. So I am going to comment the third topic called "Why an Internet Business?". This first summary will ask you why are you doing this. Be ready to answer this question.

It's one thing to decide to set up a business, but now consider the advantages of doing it online. Some have compared the advent of the Internet with the invention of te printing press. In the same way that printing made books cheap enough to be distributed to the masses (at least to those who could read), the Internet allows a business-person in their broadband-connected bedroom to connect with billions of buyers.

Some benefits:

  1. Low startup costs: the costs of premises are replaced by server hosting costs; shop fittings and infrastructure by a simple electronic shopping cart; and adverts in the local press make way for Google AdWords.
  2. Long opening hours: An Internet business can be open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
  3. Testing: The Internet also lets you quickly and cheaply test the performance of different product lines and the effectiveness of marketing approaches.
  4. Scale: Internet businesses can often be scaled to suit you.
  5. Competing with te big boys: A well-designed, smoothly running website can, without misleadings customers, appear just as polished as trustworthy as Amazon.

Anyway, The internet will help you as a fast track; don't forget you should apply same concepts of marketing, operations and financial to your business.
